Abecitrus, a representative of an important segment of the Brazilian economy, is aware of its social responsibilities, assumed the public commitment to eradicate child labor in the citrus sector and has been supporting, together with its member companies, a series of social actions aimed at improving the quality of life of school age children.

Abecitrus believes that child labor is a social wound that must be removed from society. Its eradication, although carrying a strong emotional component, is a rational attitude that demands understanding the problem and having the political will to solve it.

Fundecitrus' Supplementary Education Centers - SECs, implemented in Araraquara and Itápolis, together with other projects of the citrus sector in the São Paulo State, such as "HC Criança" and "Social Projects Sucocítrico Cutrale", represent both point of view. These projects are the public, concrete renewal of our commitment to eradicate child labor and to create better conditions to educate children.

Below are some of the social projects developed by Abecitrus and its members or which have their support:

  Commitment to Eradicate Child Labor in Citriculture
     Public commitment signed in 1996 by Abecitrus to eradicate child labor in the FCOJ productive chain, made official by the federal
     and state governments and recognized by international organizations.
The International Recognition
     Actions carried out by Abecitrus to eradicate child labor in the citrus sector of the States São Paulo and Minas Gerais have
     been recognized and acknowledged by Unicef and ILO.
Supplementary Education Center Fundecitrus-Araraquara
     SEC Araraquara is the result of an agreement between Fundecitrus and the Municipality of Araraquara. It was implemented in
     1997 and meets the supplementary education needs of 240 children and teenagers between 7 and 14 years old.
Supplementary Education Center Fundecitrus-Itápolis
     The result of a partnership between Fundecitrus, Sucocítrico Cutrale and the Municipality of Itápolis, SEC Itápolis was
     implemented in 1999 and meets the supplementary education needs of 400 children and teenagers from 7 to 14 years old.
Social Projects Sucocítrico Cutrale
     Cutrale performs a series of social actions in the areas of education, health, and meal enhancement in the regions where
     the company operates to improve the quality of life of the regions inhabitants.
HC Criança Project
     This project, which has Abecitrus support, involves the construction of a highly specialized hospital for children and teenagers
     in Ribeirão Preto, State of São Paulo.
