Fundação Abrinq pelos Direitos da Criança e do Adolescente [Abrinq Foundation
for the Rights of the Child and Adolescent] extended Sucocítrico Cutrale's
"Child-Friendly Company" seal for another year. The Company has the right
to use the seal since 1998. The renewal occurs as an acknowledgement of
the Company's social responsibility work, especially in areas involving
children and teenagers.
The extension of the right to use the seal was also granted to Abecitrus
- which possesses the seal since it signed the child labor deed of commitment
in 1996, for promoting together with its associated companies a series
of social actions mainly aimed at improving the quality of life of school-age
children.
Created in 1995, the Child-Friendly Company Program grants the seal to
companies that sign a commitment with the Abrinq Foundation to act in
favor of and defend five points: the end of child labor, education, health
civil rights, and social investments for this age group.
Cutrale has been working to improve the quality of life of dwellers,
especially children and teenagers in the cities and towns in which it
operates. Hence, some of the initiatives of the company in recent years
were: "Oranges in the 2006 World Cup", an event that promoted the cultural,
sport and social exchange between students of the local school network
in the City of Araraquara. The Mayor's office and Sesi carried out the
contest, with the total support of Sucocítrico Cutrale.
Furthermore, in a partnership with the local government authority, Cutrale
also sponsors the "Orange Juice in School Meals and Snacks" program, which
since 2001 has contributed to benefit approximately 15,000 children up
to 14 years of age of the 54 public schools of Araraquara, an investment
of R$250,000.00 a year.
Another Cutrale project is the sponsorship of the local soccer team,
the Ferroviária. A total of R$40,000.00 is invested every month, R$20,000.00
in soccer players of the club and R$20,000.00 for the base categories.
In this project 20 needy children from 10 to 18 years old are enrolled.
They have a place to live, meals, and medical and dental assistance. Another
60 children who live in the region are also benefited from the project.
Moreover, in a partnership with Fundecitrus and the Mayor's office of
Itápolis, Cutrale maintains the Centro de Educação Complementar Fundecitrus-Itápolis
[Supplementary Education Center] for approximately 400 children and teenagers
from 7 to 14 years old. The CEC provides children with quality education
and full time support, engaging them in activities that supplement those
of their regular schools.
The Company's concern with social responsibility is extended to its raw
material and input suppliers, who must follow the same principles at the
time they hire their employees.
